I’m not denying the importance of human reason. I’m pushing back on the exclusivity of human reason and the exaltation of human reason above all. The whole of my argument can be summarized as: There are times when you don’t understand all the facts and you will need to fall back on trusting authorities that you’ve predetermined are trustworthy.
This seems a little circular, though. Human reason is required to determine who is a trusted authority, as the Austen example seems to underscore?
